Dunbar Eyecare Optometry is a locally owned, full service optometric clinic located in Vancouver, British Columbia. Dr. Caroline Kriekenbeek and her team of professional optometrists and opticians welcome patients of all ages, from children to seniors.
We are committed to providing you with the best possible solutions for all your vision and eye health needs, including updated eyeglass prescriptions in the latest fashion eyewear, prescription fashion and performance sunglasses, and contact lenses. As one of only a few official Sports Eye Injury Prevention Centers in Vancouver, Dunbar Eyecare Optometry is committed to the cause of protecting eyes during sports, with a line of sport protective eyewear that meet or exceed ASTM F803 standards. As well, we are a provider for occupational safety standard eyewear in the workplace.

Our office is a member in good standing of the Dunbar Business Association, and enjoys contributing to the neighborhood community whenever possible. The office is conveniently located on the ground level, and one hour of free parking is available on the street, or pay parking is available within the building underground.

Meet our dynamic and professional team
Dr Caroline Kriekenbeek
Optometrist
Dr. Caroline Kriekenbeek received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at the University of British Columbia in 1991. She continued her studies at the University of California, Berkeley to receive her Doctor of Optometry degree in 1995. During her education, she completed clinical rotations in eye disease at the Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii, and at the American Lake Veterans Administration Hospital in Washington. Since returning to B.C., she has practiced in optometric eye clinics in Williams Lake, Richmond, and New Westminster.
In the spring of 2001, Dr. Caroline Kriekenbeek opened her own practice, Dunbar Eyecare Optometry, to serve the communities of Dunbar-Southlands and UBC. She has enjoyed contributing to the profession of optometry as a former Councillor for the BC Doctors of Optometry, and as a member for BCDO’s Continuing Education Committee. She welcomes all new and previous patients. Dr. Kriekenbeek is a member in good standing of the British Columbia Doctors of Optometry, and the Canadian Association of Optometrists.

Dr Herman Cheng
Optometrist
Born and raised in Vancouver, Dr. Herman Cheng graduated from Cardiff University School of Optometry in 2010; he practiced in the United Kingdom for 5 years before transitioning back to North America. Dr. Cheng went on to further his studies at the New England College of Optometry in the United States where he obtained his Doctorate in Optometry.
His clinical practice in the United States, United Kingdom and Canada has given him extensive experience in all aspects of patient care with an emphasis in contact lenses, ocular disease and refractive surgery. In his spare time, when he is not spending time with relatives and friends over a good board game, you will find him cheering on his favourite sports teams! Dr. Cheng is a member in good standing of the British Columbia Association of Optometrists and the Canadian Association of Optometrists. Dr Cheng speaks fluent Cantonese and English.
